The Dream Dies in the Depot

A Day in the Life: October 11th


(Aged 14)
Wea.                                           SUN. OCT. 11, 1896               Ther. 

Ma, Rollie + I went to church.  I + Rollie went to the trap.  I had one muskrat. 


(Aged 16)
Wea.                                            TUE. OCT. 11, 1898               Ther.

Went to school on my wheel it rained + was awful muddy coming home.  Chas Slater came after me + we met by Will Smith’s.



(Aged 17)
Wea.                                             WED. OCT. 11, 1899               Ther.

Burnes + I are still in Buffalo but no George.  We shall leave today.  We went down to the W.N.Y. + P.R.P yards and caught the 8.00 freight.  Rode it through to Brocton. Stayed the rest of the night in the Depot.  Ordered my cloths sent from Jersey City to Frewsburg.

Went to school with Gordon.   In eve Mearle Cowan was down he stayed all night with me.  Didn’t study much.

Drew in corn.  Chas. husked 22 bu.


(Aged 20)
Wea.                                               SAT.  OCT. 11, 1902             Ther.

Went up to sale at John Scudder’s.  I kept books.  Ma + Alice went up to Gib’s.


(Aged 21)
Wea.                                              SUN.  OCT. 11, 1903                  Ther.

Stayed at home.

Editor's Note:  It must have been an emotionally crushing night to catch the train away from your dream and sleep rough in the depot.  Imagine having to order your clothes sent home after so enthusiastically sending them on ahead.
