Cut wood 1/2 cd. Wanted to sign for Good Stories + get a book named “Hunters + Trappers Guide”. Got the paper one year + the book for .26 cents.

Wea. Sunny WED. MARCH 9, 1898 Ther.
Went to school played football. Erd White came up to stay all night with me. In evening Chas Slater went up to a surprise party at Joel Harrington’s.

Wea. THUR. MARCH 9, 1899 Ther.
Drove to school. Got Pa a library book.

Wea. FRI. MARCH 9, 1900 Ther.
Rode to school with Gordon. He and Allene Davis have broken up. In eve took Alice Warn up to a party at Frank Warn’s.

NO ENTRY AGAIN UNTIL MAY 22nd.

Stayed at home all day. Gail went to factory. Rollie came over. The big red Turner Cow came in had a big bull calf.

Editor's Note: My first subscription was National Geographic--I was about 14 too. I think my sister's was Seventeen magazine and I thought it was totally too old for her. I don't think the Hunter's and Trapper's Guide benefited our man very much as his hunting efforts show but I never became an explorer either. However, Diana eventually did reach 17.
Gordon breaks up with his girl too following Allen's lead. But I don't know that Gordon has anyone like Alice Warn waiting in the wings.

Actually my first subscription was to HUMPTY DUMPTY and I always felt it was a consolation prize for our parents' divorce. It started coming as soon as we left Media, PA (spoiler alert). Anyhow, I did become 17 and couldn't believe that I never achieved cover girl status. I now subscribe to Mother Jones and Utne and Dwell and Real Simple which as my friend Tema would say "If you own more than one copy of "Real Simple" you are not keeping it real simple."
