Editor's Note:  The thrill seems gone for Allen and his work-a-day-world.  How dejected does his 1899 entry sound?  Nothing exciting happened that day?  I can't believe it.  Having worked retail a time or two in my life I'm sure he had to have had at least one funny tale to tell about a customer.  And honestly, I've written a lot more that one line on someone else's time.
