160th Anniversary of Frank Cass' Birth

Proud patriarch with his two sons and his three grandsons


(Aged 14)
Wea. Clear                                   SUN. MAY 31, 1896               Ther. 

In. A.M. Rollie + I went over to grandma’s.  In the P.M. Ma, Rollie + I went up to Pope Hollow Sunday School.  Pa gave me a licking for having some tobacco in my pocket.



(Aged 16)
Wea.                                            TUE. MAY 31, 1898               Ther.

Went to factory.  In eve went up to Warn’s after some more corn.



(Aged 17)
Wea.                                             WED. MAY 31, 1899               Ther.

Rode my wheel to school.  Traded inner tubes with Ransom.  When taking his inner tube out of the casing I pulled it in two then had to mend it.

Pa’s birthday he is 48.  Aunt Ada + Grandma were over.


(Aged 18)
Wea.                                              THU. MAY 31, 1900                 Ther.

Washed the buggy and milked before breakfast.  Then went to factory.  When I got home went to bed and slept all day.  This is Pa’s birthday.  He is 49 yrs. old.



(Aged 19)
Wea.                                              FRI. MAY 31, 1901                Ther.

Frankie went to town.  Pulled weeds.  Traded guns with Joe Drayton.

Wea.                                               SAT.  MAY 31, 1902             Ther.

Pa, Ma, Rollie, Grandma, Alice, Willard + I went to town + had our pictures taken.

Wea.                                              SUN.  MAY 31, 1903                  Ther.

Editor's Note:  So I was right, Frank was only in his 40s when he wrote his poem.  Sad to think that Frank had to give Allen "a licking" on his birthday.  Not a good way to celebrate.  If you recall from yesterday, Allen was out until 4:s0am with Alice in 1900.  He says he never went to sleep that night but did his morning chores before he "slept all day".  It doesn't sound like they made much of a celebration for birthdays. 

Sadly, we have not laid our hands on the family portrait taken on Frank's 51st birthday.
