A Day in the Life: March 3rd

The Checkered Chicken frowns on the serving of chicken for dinner and the fickleness of boys.

Went to school.  Pa went down for the Board of Health met.  He drove the horse home + I got a ride up with Ezra Thayer.

Went to school played football.  Had company.  Cora Love was at school in the P.M.  Pa, Charles + Geo went up to Gib’s + got six cows that had come in.  Ma + Grandma went down to the burg to a chicken dinner--was a large crowd.

Wea.                                               FRI. MARCH 3, 1899                   Ther. 

Drove to school.  John rode with me.  Had a new milck (sic) cow today.  Geo Walters finished moving.


(Aged 18)
Wea.                                              SAT. MARCH 3, 1900                   Ther.

Stayed at home all day helped cut a saw log.  Bess and I had a flair up last night because I am getting tired of her.

Went to the factory for the first time drew pa’s milk.  I had 30 lbs.

Wea.                                              MON.  MARCH 3, 1902               Ther.

Alice + the baby went over to pa’s.  Gail helped pa cut wood.  Traded my shot-gun for a watch + 5 dollars.

I fixed a place on the barn floor for the cows to come in on.

Andrew came after a load of goods and stayed with us all night.  I bought a jug of pa for $8.00.

Editor's Note:  I checked back on the entries and it is true, Alice and Allen do not seem to have gone out or communicated since the Page party on February 9th when she was angered by him.  Bessie Traver became his steady two days later after he gave her a ride home from church. Just short of 3 weeks later and he is "tired of her".  Charming.  Well, most likely poor Bess was rebound from the fall out with Alice anyhow. Stay tuned and don't worry about Bessie.  She marries a man named McNeal and moves to Warren, Pa where she has 3 children.
