A Day in the Life: March 4th

(Aged 14)
Wea.  Clear                                   WED. MARCH 4, 1896                Ther. 7

Went to school was 15 min. late walked nearly all the way.  Got a ride home with Oscar Johnson.  School let out for our class at 3 P.M.                 


(Aged 16)
Wea.  Cloudy                                FRI. MARCH 4, 1898                   Ther. 36

Went to school played football.  Mars John Page was over + stayed all day.  In evening Pa, Ma + Rollie went up to Ed Harrington’s.  Chas. + I stayed at home.


(Aged 17)
Wea.                                             SAT. MARCH 4, 1899                    Ther. 

In A.M. went over and got grandma then went up and tapped part of the sugar bush.  In P.M. ma took grandma home.  I tapped more trees.  Pa settled up with Grandma.  I am awful tired.  Pa is nearly sick.

Wea.                                              SUN. MARCH 4, 1900                  Ther.

Stayed at home in A.M. In P.M. went up to Ivory to S.S. Alice Warn came up and asked me to go to the party at Frank Warn’s Friday eve. In the eve I came down to the burg with Mearle Cowan.

Drew Grist to the burg.  Bought three milk cans.  Pearl + Ruth came down put curtains up.


(Aged 20)
Wea.                                              TUE.  MARCH 4, 1902                 Ther.

Went to factory.  Gail helped pa.  Gave Ivan a check for $10.60 on my store bill.  Bot a bull calf of Jim Smith for $11.


(Aged 21)
Wea.                                              WED.  MARCH 4, 1903                Ther.

Andrew went home.  I helped him load his pigs.  Irvin went to the factory and then got the pig at pa’s and took it up to Clarence Love’s.  In A.M. we went up to (?) and got a lot of crates and his stores that Andrew gave me I sold one to Irvin for $4.00.

Editor's Note:  Now I am not saying Allen doesn't know his own mind but I am certain he doesn't have a clue how fast word got around Carroll that he was no longer with Bessie much less that Alice had kept her torch for him well tended.  Alice's return is beautifully timed.  She doesn't even give him a day to let his breakup settle much less wait around to see if he'd come calling on her.   I can just imagine Alice's courage and determination growing with each step bringing her closer to Allen.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Frank Warn for having a party so Alice had a ruse to get Allen's attention back on her where it belonged.  Think of all the people who would never have been if Alice Warn didn't take charge of her own destiny!
