Editor's Note:
It is curious in 1899 that Allen hasn't even gone home for a visit once since he ran off in August.  It has been 4 months since he has seen his family and farm and yet he is only a few hours away. He could have gone home anytime to say hello, have mom cook for him and wash his clothes.  His need to be independent must have burned very strongly.
