Editor's Note:
It's really sweet how Allen writes Elmer Warn invited him to a Valentine's Day Party.  You know Elmer was just trying to build his posse up so he wouldn't have to enter the party on his own.   Filed under cool juxtaposition:  the next year Allen rides up from school with Lydia Lawson who is the future Mrs.  Elmer Warn.  I have come to realize that everyone "rode" with everyone.  It was a kind, neighborly thing to do and didn't always imply romance.

In 1901 "We took a bath".  Does he mean together or in succession?  He didn't exactly say baths now did he?  He was a newlywed after all but I'm thinking the bath might have been a bit small for some reason. Still...

In 1902, Ray's tenure as the hired man on Allen's farm seem to be drawing to a close.

  1. Tell the truth, how often do you really think folks bathed back then? And laundry. I am sure they didn't wash the sheets once a week.
