The tragic Georgiana Sutton Gilbert--Actress from the Lucas side of the family

(Died in the) Fire in Newhall House Hotel Milwaukee, WI  Jan. 11, 1883

Transcription of Mabel's notation: Daughter of Mary Jane Lucas Sutton Reddington.   Lived with Wm. M Lucas (grandfather) in 1865 when she was 4 years old.

She married the father of John Gilbert (movie star)?for his 2nd wife + was killed in a fire on their honeymoon. 
Georgie & Fauntie (Florence her sister) were in show business.  Aunt Belle Lucas Burns told us about visitng these girls in Louisville, KY.

Fauntie used to write to Aunt Belle.  She dies in Detroit after spending he last years there in a hotel.

Story of fire in the New York Times Jan 11, 1883.  She (Georgie is mentioned).



Wm. Lucas was our 3rd g-grandfather which makes Georgiana and Florence our 1st cousins 3x removed (according to ancestry.com).  I believe Gram is wrong about this John Gilbert being the father of the movie actor because I see that Gilbert took his name from his mother.  Also there was a famous comedian with the same name in this era but his wives don't pan out as expected.  Somewhere I have the NYT article in which folks are mourning for John Gilbert's loss of his new bride.  I shall post it when I find it...No, my papers still aren't sorted.  

As luck would have it, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Thumb escaped the fire.
