Editor's Note:  At 14, life couldn't be more dreamy for Allen as he floats down the river fishing and berry picking.

At 16, I wonder if he and Asa go spearing as a direct result of seeing a billfish and wanting in on such a conquest.  But where did they see the billfish, in a photo, in a market?  I thought bill fish was a misspelling but see that it is big game fish like swordfish.

At 18, Alice hasn't even been in her new situation in Jamestown a week yet and Allen is having a "fine time" with Miss Ruth Davis of Olean.  I really enjoy how he refers to her though always putting her town of origin.

Ages 19-21 are a bit of a reality check of adulthood.

*I have always loved me a little Mills Brothers thanks to my mom.
