In celebration, I will be making her mother-in-law's (Nora Babcock Cass) cake and frosting it with her  daughter's (Mabel Cass Lucas) chocolate frosting.  If all turns out according to plan I shall post the recipes and a picture soon.

Editor's Note:
One wonders if it was church or grandma who put Ma in a bad mood in 1896.

Allen’s curiosity in watching the trial is fantastic.  He doesn’t seem to be there because he knows who the person on trial is but he’s there because of what it is.

Glad to see he’s still reading “Thaddeus of Warsaw”.  I took a look at my link and thought “not for me”.

As for Alice’s birthday through the years, I hope Allen bathed before the party in 1900 after a day working in manure.  Unfortunately for Alice, she doesn’t always get a big birthday shout out from her love in these journals.  In fact, the "washing" entry sort of pings at how quickly their lives moved from romancing to reality.  In 1903, Alice had two children under 3 years old.

  1. Did you realize as I just did that this is also the birthday of one of Alice's great-great grandsons?
