 A Day in the Life: January 27th

(Aged 14)

Went to school. In morning my arm was worse at night it was a little better.

Went to school.  Glendine Taylor + Lydia Lawson  rode down with me.  Had examination in U.S. History and reading.  Between time I went up to a part of Clyde Putnam’s house also to a law suit.  In eve. Fred Bingham was here.

Wea.                                              FRI. JAN. 27, 1899                         Ther. 

Went to school in the A.M. and had examination in drawing.  In P.M. Glen and I went hunting started five rabbits and I shot at one but didn’t hit him.
It is awful cold + the wind blows hard. Glen will stay all night with me tonight as it was so cold he couldn’t go home.

Pa went to the burg.  I drew a load of wood.  Ma + Rollie went over to Page’s.

I worked doing chores until about one o’clock.  In eve I took Alice to church but never hated to do a thing as bad in my life as I did that.  Took a bath after we came home.

Chas Wigrene sent his milk for the last time yesterday.

Ma came over in P.M.  Pa + Rollie came over in evening.

Lyle, Jim + I all went up to mill + worked.

Editor's Note: 
Allen is still not throwing any snowballs nor is he catching rabbits a few years later.  But how can anyone not laugh aloud at his comment regarding driving Alice to church?  What made the experience so miserable?  It is even hilarious that it seems he had to wash the whole thought of it off him in the rare bath.

Curious about the milk ending.  Not sure what this means.  Did Allen have enough cows of his own? Were they in a co-op?  I will pursue.
