A Day in the Life: December 12th

Charley + I cut wood put up 2 cd.


(Aged 17)
Wea. snowy                                  MON. DEC. 12, 1898               Ther.

Drove horse + cutter to school.  Have got a boil on my neck.


(Aged 18)

Wea.                                             TUE. DEC. 12, 1899               Ther.

Went to Centerville.  Billed Whitman + Pine Tree school Houses.  In eve showed at Centre school.  Took in $3.50.  Stayed all night at Mr. Simmon’s. 


(Aged 19)

               Ther.

Cut 3 cord wood.  In eve went up to Alice’s.  Gave her a calling down she didn’t deserve.  XX


(Aged 20)
Wea.                                              THU. DEC. 12, 1901                Ther.

Went to town payed two notes.  Got a shovel, two pitchforks, etc.  Drew 7 loads of manure.  Eat oysters over to pa’s.  This is the first Alice + the baby have been out.

Wea.                                               FRI.  DEC. 12, 1902             Ther.

Drew bolts. I put up the kitchen stovepipe.

Editor's Note:  In 1900 it is less than 2 weeks until their wedding and Allen gives Alice "a calling down".  Given that there are XXs I'm guessing it was all easily resolved but they were just kids really and I can imagine the stress and nerves they must have had no matter how excited they were.

Exactly one year later is Alice's first post-birth outing with her baby boy.  Willard was just one month old.
