Tres Important Addendum to Aug 4th
On Aug 4th 1900 after the ball play I omitted the following very important final sentence in the entry!

So whenever Alice's out-posting to Chicago took place it was long over with by now. And even the summer separation when she had a job up in Jamestown proved useless. Alice has just come home for a week off and now the mention of the "Short Call". How romantic.
